3 things I wish I knew about the pill

There is a time and place for hormonal birth control. However, I believe that we should have the right to access the information about what it is doing to our bodies.

Most doctors prescribe the pill for more than just contraception - to “fix” acne, heavy or irregular periods, pms and other various cycle challenges. However the Pill is just a bandaid solution and does not address the root cause of your symptoms.

The Pill is often prescribed without you being informed on what it does to your body and the long term affects that it can have on your health and hormones.

These are just 3 important facts that I wish I was told when I was prescribed the pill at 16 years of age:

✨You are not having a real period, as ovulation is suppressed. This prevents you from exposure to important hormones that support health and wellbeing.

✨The Pill affects your gut microbiome and depletes you of essential nutrients such as magnesium, b-complex vitamins, zinc & selenium.

✨Lowers your libido as testosterone is also suppressed, resulting in lower overall vitality.

We need to be presented with this information before we make our decision, as well as be presented with all the other options for contraception so we can make our own informed choices.

If you are considering coming off hormonal birth control such as the Pill, there are ways to transition off in a supportive way and return to balance. It just takes patience, and the right education and support network to guide you through it.
